Is the Maximal Function of a Lipschitz Function Continuous?
We examine the action of the maximal operator on Lipschitz and Hölder functions in the context of homogeneous spaces. Boundedness results are proven for spaces satisfying an annular decay property and counterexamples are given for some other spaces. The annular decay property is defined and investigated.
متن کاملWell-posedness for density-dependent incompressible fluids with non-Lipschitz velocity
This paper is dedicated to the study of the initial value problem for density dependent incompressible viscous fluids in R with N ≥ 2. We address the question of well-posedness for large data having critical Besov regularity and we aim at stating well-posedness in functional spaces as close as possible to the ones imposed in the incompressible Navier Stokes system by Cannone, Meyer and Planchon...
متن کاملWell–Posedness of a Model for Water Waves with Viscosity
The water wave equations of ideal free–surface fluid mechanics are a fundamental model of open ocean movements with a surprisingly subtle well–posedness theory. In consequence of both theoretical and computational difficulties with the full water wave equations, various asymptotic approximations have been proposed, analysed and used in practical situations. In this essay, we establish the well–...
متن کاملForce Flux and the Peridynamic Stress Tensor
The peridynamic model is a framework for continuum mechanics based on the idea that pairs of particles exert forces on each other across a finite distance. The equation of motion in the peridynamic model is an integro-differential equation. In this paper, a notion of a peridynamic stress tensor derived from nonlocal interactions is defined. At any point in the body, this stress tensor is obtain...
متن کاملWell-posedness, regularity and exact controllability of the SCOLE model
The SCOLE model is a coupled system consisting of a flexible beam (modelled as an Euler–Bernoulli equation) with one end clamped and the other end linked to a rigid body. Its inputs are the force and the torque acting on the rigid body. It is well-known that the SCOLE model is not exactly controllable with L2 input signals in the natural energy state space Hc, because the control operator is bo...
